Left Kelowna around 7:30pm with the hopes the kids would sleep in the car.... Kayden was out within a few minutes as Isaiah fought hard with drooping eyelids to take in the scenery. Perhaps the scenic highlight occurred just as we approach Revelstoke. We rounded a corner and WOW! - the full moon was glowing between two mountain peaks --- and the brilliant light seemed to follow us for hours... Kayden didn't make it through the night as we had hoped but his party from 2-4am added some entertainment and diversity to the drive.
We hear the prairies are flat forever - and ever - and ever - and ever - and ever.... that just might be accurate. Yves managed to drive through the night while I cat-napped here and there. It's official, the number of cattle far surpass the population of Saskatchewan. We saw evidence of the recent flooding of Reed Lake but roads have been clear and smooth travels thus far.
Stopped in Regina at a playground and splashpark for the kids. Thanks to Google we thought we had found a site with washrooms/changerooms/etc. as the checklist indicated and noted it was adjoined to Rec Centre. Surprise! Rec Centre Hours 8am-12pm and 12:30-5pm Monday to Friday. How crazy is that?!? We are not in BC anymore!
WHOA! As we approached the Manitoba border, there was a storm to great us. Within minutes the sunshine turned to sideways rain and hail with flashes of lightening and echoes of thunder. Somehow though, Kayden slept through it all. Any guesses as to when the one and only time (so far) that Isaiah needed to go the bathroom at an inconvenient time?
After being on the road for over 20 hours, we made it to Brandon, Manitoba at 3:45pm. And, 3 minutes from our hotel we hit construction; complete standstill. Isaiah commented, "Don't the construction men know they need to stay out of our way?" Kayden shortly followed with, "let's go! go! go!"
As we arrived at the hotel, Victoria Inn, we had a pleasant surprise awaiting us, the pool! Kayden put on his water floaty (thanks Piper!) and was in heaven. Mr. Independent certainly shocked everyone around him. We can only imagine the reaction of others if both Piper and Kayden were there together! Isaiah's recently swimming lessons certainly paid off as he was very comfortable too.
